Alliance for Toll-Free Interstates (ATFI) urges infrastructure committee to reject tolls

By Land Line Magazine

"The Alliance for Toll-Free Interstates (ATFI) sent a letter to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee last week. The message: Don’t toll existing interstate tolls to pay for the bill.

The Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association, as well as all 50 state trucking associations, is a member of ATFI. More than 50 other transportation groups and companies are also members."

Trump's Highway Plan May Face Same Old Roadblocks In Congress

By WXPR 91.7 FM
David Schaper

"Just how bad is the state of the nation's highway infrastructure? So bad, tires on FedEx trucks last only half as long as they did 20 years ago, as they deteriorate rapidly from crumbling pavement and get more flats from gaping potholes."

To Toll or Not to Toll Is Question for Trump Infrastructure Plan

By Bloomberg
Mark Niquette

"The Brent Spence Bridge between Ohio and Kentucky carries twice as much traffic as it was built to handle -- it’s 54 years old and functionally obsolete.

But an effort to replace the span on one of America’s busiest trucking routes has languished for years -- even after governors from both states agreed on a $2.5 billion plan about five years ago. The reason: Kentucky won’t approve new interstate highway tolls needed to attract private money to the project."

More tollways option for funding

By The Fort Wayne Journal Gazette
Niki Kelly

"INDIANAPOLIS – If lawmakers approve a House Republican plan for long-term road funding, it could mean more than paying at the pump.

It includes language exploring tolling options, including applying for a federal waiver to place tolls on interstate highways.

More importantly, it would not require any future vote on tollways by legislators once a specific tolling plan is formed. Instead, it would leave it up to the discretion of the current or future governors."

Don't double dip in drivers' pockets to pay for roads

By The Hill
Jim Burg and David Congdon
December 23, 2016

"Infrastructure investment is a rare Beltway issue where both sides can find common ground.

America’s roads, bridges, pipes and ports need sustainable funding to support a modern economy. And while we agree with Secretary LaHood and Governor Rendell’s call-to-action (“Building infrastructure for the future can bring country together”), we vehemently disagree with their policy prescription."

Many experts skeptical of Trump’s plan to fix infrastructure

The Albuquerque Journal
By Jim Tankersley and Max Ehrenfreund/The Washington Post
November 2, 2016

"Donald Trump has a plan to rebuild America’s infrastructure, for what he promises is no cost to the taxpayer. If true, it would be a heck of a deal. Not just new roads and bridges, but, as Trump’s advisers promise, new pipes to deliver clean water to the residents of cities such as Flint, Michigan."
